As a multi-instrumentalist, Fitzhugh performs with a number of ensembles covering a wide range of genres, including early music, world music, singer/songwriter, ambient rock, symphonic metal, and Balkan folk dance. As a composer, she combines elements of these disparate styles to write music full of unexpected juxtapositions through unique orchestration. Her string quartet+guitar+contrabass sextet Waiting for the Future follows a series of unique, sparse fragments with longer, sprawling tutti sections, each utilizing its own orchestrational figuration.
