Peter White
Dr. Peter White is an NYC-based freelance percussionist specializing in chamber music. He has performed as a soloist at the Oregon Bach Festival, McCormick Marimba Festival, and TROMP Percussion Competition as a semi-finalist. His orchestral appearances have included performances with the Eugene Symphony, St. Hugh-Steinway Concert Series, and Children’s Orchestra Society at Carnegie Hall. He has joined a number of chamber groups including Elemental Culture, the Master Chorale of South Florida, and Nu Deco Ensemble, and performed for events such as the PAS Days of Percussion Québec in Montreal, World Music Day at Kolorac Hall in Belgrade, and the Percussion Competition Luxembourg as a semi-finalist. Peter is a founding member of the clarinet, voice, and percussion trio Sputter Box. He also co-founded the percussion collective Pneuma, who performed at the International Festival of Young Winners of Music in Katowice, Poland. He regularly joins the piano and two percussion group Pathos Trio for concerts such as the Tribeca New Music Festival at DiMenna Center in NYC.
Besides countless residencies with his chamber groups, Peter’s teaching engagements have included guest classes at UMass Amherst, Texas A&M University, and the Wojciech Kilar Music School in Katowice. As an arranger, Peter worked with Dr. Brian Smith to create the Stravinsky Project, a trilogy of piano and percussion arrangements of Stravinsky’s three ballets, all of which premiered at the Staunton Music Festival.
Peter holds degrees in percussion performance from the University of Oregon, the University of Miami, and SUNY Stony Brook.
