Peter (LIFTS THE) Box - Allison Loggins-Hull

This week I want to highlight the work of flutist/composer/producer Allison Loggins-Hull and her collaboration with Nathalie Joachim as the flute duo Flutronix, critically acclaimed for their fresh, genre-bending redefinition of their instrument in a classical chamber music setting. Loggins-Hull’s composition Flock for four flutes and one alto flute takes its inspiration from the polyphonic layering processes of Steve Reich’s flute ensemble work Vermont Counterpoint to create an aural representation of the intricate flight patterns of a flock of birds. There are two versions of this work, one being for the acoustic flute ensemble and the other incorporating electronics and drums, showcasing Loggins-Hull’s ability to seamlessly bridge the gap between the music worlds of classical and pop.
