Sputter Box, a clarinet, voice and percussion trio, is premiering a mixed media piece featuring video by Kakia Gkoudina and music by Daijana Wallace in Astoria, Queens.
This piece depicts moments of stillness, which ironically are best depicted through moving images and music that creates the respective atmosphere. These moments are often paired with intense nostalgia for moments in our lives, for example, your child’s first dance recital, or, for people who have passed, a scene of your grandmother who always knew how to calm your worries. These nostalgic moments can also be experienced communally, such as Neil Armstrong landing on the moon.
Along with the premiere of this work, Sputter Box will perform classic and commissioned works from the trio's repertoire that can evoke an idea of stillness in their own unique ways. The program includes works by Victor Ekimovsky, Michael Genese, David Howell, Mavis MacNeil, Jordan Nobles, Matthew Slazik, Spencer Perkins, Daniel Townsend, and Bethany Younge.
This concert will take place on Friday, February 3rd at 7:30pm and Sunday, February 5th at 3pm at Art House Astoria in the Broom Tree Theater. The concerts will also be live streamed.
This concert is funded by the Queens Arts Council through the New Work Grant.
